we want our tools to improve skill

Mucky Tools creator, Kelly has designed a finger lift bat system to make taking your work of the wheel easy. Allowing you to focus more on your practice!

we work with clay all day every day. we understand what makes people’s practice improve.

Kelly is a co-director of a successful not for profit community pottery studio based in Wales. (Cardiff Pottery Workshops CIC). Teaching thousands of students, from budding potters to professional makers. Kelly has designed a range of tools aimed at helping throwers get their work off the wheel with ease…and Mucky Tools was born!

The Mucky Tools Finger Lift Bat System is the only bat system on the market to have a double recess that enables you to lift the inner bat with your fingers. This reduces the risk of knocking your pot off centre and distorting the fragile lip of the pot. No more digging at the bat with a tool. Kelly has considered many elements to this design, from the thickness and choice of the material, to the shape of the finger lift recess, which echoes a key design feature from Kelly’s personal collection of work. The aim is to offer a bat system that makes throwing and removing your work from the wheel a joy!

Kelly, a ceramicist who has over 20 years experience in pottery is part of the duo that run Cardiff Pottery Workshops. Her sheer determination and passion for keeping the subject of pottery and skilled craft alive in Wales, UK has resulted in a fantastic pottery studio which is available to anyone wishing to try working with clay.
